Biodiversity-positive gold that restores habitat for salmon and other species
Tailings from historic placer mine sites can disrupt habitat for salmon and grayling, preventing migration and spawning. Salmon Gold remines these former sites and then restores fish habitat, utilizing sustainable techniques and leading restoration practices.
Launched in 2018 by RESOLVE, Salmon Gold works with miners, communities, conservationists, government agencies, restoration experts, and manufacturers and brands to produce gold that tells a positive story in the marketplace and demonstrates the value of restoration. We are currently working in Alaska, the Yukon Territory, and British Columbia, home to globally significant habitat for salmon and other anadromous fish species.
By producing gold that supports restoration, Salmon Gold is supplying manufacturing and retail companies with responsibly sourced minerals for their products. Salmon Gold is in the supply chains of our downstream partners, including Apple and Mejuri.
Salmon Gold's progress is the result of support from partners Apple, Newmont, Mejuri, Donlin, PAMP and Tiffany & Co., who helped support our early restoration efforts and sourced gold. We thank the US Bureau of Land Management and the Yukon Geological Survey for their guidance and expertise. Thanks to Mejuri for supporting Salmon Gold financially through retail campaigns such as Giving Tuesday 2022.
Now, as part of Regeneration Enterprises, Salmon Gold is expanding to new locations, forging new partnerships, and securing resources to scale the program with revenue from remining and by valuing restoration. We plan to be able to support restoration projects with funding from offsets.
