Stephane is a third generation diamantaire with a history of service to the diamond industry. He has been active in support of the industry since the 1980s. He was involved with the Antwerp World Diamond Center, including three consecutive terms as its chairman. Stephane has led diamond industry efforts to combat the trade in diamonds fueling conflict. He was instrumental in developing a certification system that became the “Kimberley Process” (KP). He helped establish the World Diamond Council in 2000 in Antwerp, Belgium, where he was elected vice-chairman, then chairman and served through May 2020. Stephan has remained active in promoting the KP standards and sustainability in the industry and local communities. He served on the board of the Diamond Development Initiative (DDI) until its merger into RESOLVE. He also served on the Responsible Jewellery Council, representing the International Diamond Manufacturer Association.
