We create biodiversity, community, and climate positive minerals for the energy transition, green tech, and sustainable brands from legacy mines and waste.
The World Bank estimates that over three billion tons of minerals will be needed to deploy the wind, solar, and geothermal power, as well as energy storage, required to achieve a climate target of 2ºC. Society must address the community, climate, and biodiversity impact of transition minerals or risk undermining efforts toward decarbonization through unintended consequences.
Brands, consumers, and investors are seeking biodiversity, community, and climate positive minerals.
Launched in November 2021 by RESOLVE, with an initial investment and partnership agreement with Rio Tinto, Regeneration is a restoration and mining start-up social enterprise, structured as a public benefit corporation (B-Corp).
Regeneration’s social purpose is to restore and renew biological and ecological systems such as forests, streams, and wetlands through full value mining and other regenerative methods; supply materials for the energy transition, green tech and sustainable brands; create and trade biodiversity and carbon credits; and utilize other strategies that benefit communities and the environment through the regeneration of natural resources.
We target legacy sites, those closed and managed by operating mining companies, where our goal is to exceed closure commitments, and abandoned, orphan mine sites.
Stephen D'Esposito, CEO and Chair, Regeneration
The time for Regeneration is now, given growing demand for transition minerals and new clean technology innovations that safely extract minerals, treat waste, and support restoration. The challenge is to match these innovations to brownfield mine sites. Regeneration’s social enterprise structure supports these efforts and allows for re-mining revenue to be dedicated to environmental improvement and restoration.
Regeneration seeks partnerships with Indigenous communities to create economic opportunities that build on traditional environmental and cultural knowledge.
Rohitesh Dhawan, President & CEO, ICMM
Work is underway to assess site opportunities. Regeneration work will be underway at sites in 2023 and the first Regeneration metals will be available in 2024.

We define Regeneration as the restoration of a biological or ecological system catalyzed by remining.
Regeneration is a social impact B-Corp dedicated to full value mining, restoration, and visionary land use.
We harvest the value of what remains at legacy mine sites, in mine tailings, rock and water, to create regeneration-branded minerals.
We create biodiversity, community, and climate positive minerals and restoration credits for the energy transition, green tech, and sustainable brands.
Regeneration applies new technologies and strategies to re-mine abandoned and legacy mine sites while addressing environmental impacts.
